Wines as impressive as the scenery
Lush orchards and Mediterranean vegetation – palm trees and picturesque vine-covered hillsides contrast starkly with the backdrop of snow-mantled Dolomite peaks. Compared with South Tyrol, Italy’s northernmost province, few winegrowing regions anywhere can boast such a diversity of grape varieties and wine styles.
Microclimates, range from the glacier to the searing summer heat of the central valleys, where South Tyrol’s 5,000 hectares of vineyard are located on the lower mountainsides. Vines include the heat-loving varieties such as the native red Lagrein and international vines warm-climate like Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vines from the Pinot family (Pinot Blanc, Noir and Pinot Grigio) perform best at medium altitude, as does the native Gewürztraminer, while the cool climate in the Eisack and Vinschgau valleys are ideal for late-ripening aromatic white varieties. South Tyrol offers enormous variety for even the most discerning palates.
Quality and genuineness
The South Tyrol Winegrowers’ Association, an umbrella organisation comprising six leading South Tyrolean winegrowers’ co-operative cellars, is uncompromisingly quality oriented, and offers outstanding genuineness in its wines. And they are brought to you, the consumer directly from the producer, without intermediaries.
The individual wineries guarantee the genuineness of their wines, controlling the entire production process from controls in the vineyards, through the grape harvest, pressing and maturing the finished wines in the cellar. The ability to match each grape variety with its ideal microclimate and the facility to draw on the finest sites in all of South Tyrol’s winegrowing areas results in wines of distinctive varietal and regional character.
